Whether you are in a residential or commercial property, you’re always going to need hot water and having a convenient water heating system is recommended for this. We all realise just how important hot water is to our daily tasks.

Instant Access to Water Heater

This is probably the main reason why you want to have hot water systems installed: hot water on demand. Whether you choose a continuous or storage hot water system, you will still be able to get access to hot water almost immediately; at most, you’ll only need to wait for a minute or less.

Having an instant hot water unit means you will not need to manually fill up a container and heat it whenever you need your hot water. Now, all you need to do is open the ta

Save Energy

The more modern your hot water systems are, the more energy-efficient they will be. Old water heaters tend to use more energy, due to the technological limitations of their manufacturing period.
When you install a new hot water system, you will get near-instant access to hot water without the electric load that old water systems consume, which means that you’ll be able to save money.

Conserve Water

The worst thing that you could do to water is waste it. Water is one of the most precious resources we have, so it’s a given that we should treat it well. Usually, when heating water manually, we end up collecting more water than we need because possibly to save on energy costs. Unfortunately, excess hot water often gets drained or repurposed after it is cooled, which creates a waste of energy used to heat the water, or a waste of the water itself, or both.
With a continuous hot water system, you’ll only release hot water whenever you need it, so you would not need to gather more water than you need. A hot water system not only helps in conserving water, but it also contributes to lower energy costs.

1. AIR LEAK IN SUCTION LINE

As fluid recirculates in the pump and forces air out of the discharge chamber, it’s trying to create an area of low pressure. However, if there’s a leak in the suction line, air continues to be drawn into the pump, never allowing it to release enough to create that area of low pressure

2. DEBRIS IN THE IMPELLER

If the eye of then impeller is plugged with debris, it removes the hydraulic capability of the impeller to create an area of low pressure.

3. PUMP IS AIR BOUND

A pump can become air bound if it experiences any of these conditions:
  •     NO AIR RELEASE LINE
    •     If there is no air release line, air cannot be vented to the atmosphere, and instead collects on the discharge side.
  •     DISCHARGE LINE IS PRESSURIZED
    •     Valve on the air release line is closed, and the valve on the discharge line is closed, again, giving no place for the air to go and get out of the pump.
  •     EXCESSIVE IMPELLER CLEARANCE
    •     If there is excessive clearance between the impeller and the wear plate, the pump has a difficult time creating a low pressure area. This is typically caused by wear, but could also be due to improper reassembly.

4. PLUGGED RECIRCULATION PORT

During the priming process, as discussed above, fluid is recirculated through the volute casing. If the recirculation port becomes plugged, the eye of the impeller is unable to create an area of low pressure in which to pull liquid up the suction line.

5. LIFT TOO HIGH FOR PUMP SPEED OR IMPELLER DIAMETER

If you’ve undersized the pump for the suction line, it will not be able to create the low pressure area it needs to prime. It’s important to understand the suction lift requirements before selecting a pump for the application.

Self-priming centrifugal pumps are unique. As the name suggests, they have the ability to prime themselves under suction lift conditions.  They draw fluid up from tanks or pits below, making them easier and safer to work on than those that work below ground. Under the right conditions, they’ll free themselves of entrained gas and function normally on their own, but sometimes, they can’t. Why? What causes failure to prime in a self-priming pump?
In order to understand why we have to understand how a self-priming pump works.
Just because they’re able to pull fluid into them, doesn’t mean that they should start up dry!! Self-priming pumps need fluid in the casing to get started. Running dry, even for a short while, will cause damage to the mechanical seal, and pump failure.

Once the pump is turned on, the impeller begins to turn in a counter clockwise rotation. The fluid inside, or the “initial prime”, flows through the volute into the discharge cavity. Here, the air and fluid separate, the air evacuates through an open ended line, or air release line, while the fluid returns to the impeller through a recirculation port.

While the fluid is recirculated and the air is removed from the discharge cavity, low pressure is being created at the eye of the impeller. Atmospheric pressure is higher than the lower pressure created at the eye of the impeller, thus fluid is forced up the suction line.

As fluid moves up the suction line, the air ahead of the fluid is pushed into the casing and handled as the initial prime was handled through the recirculation process. Once the fluid arrives in the pump, it operates as normal.

Install Condition Monitoring Technology

There are a number of things you can try to prevent cavitation. You can re-evaluate the piping design leading to the pump, ensure the pump is running at its best efficiency point, among others. But there is also technology available for cavitation prevention. For more info talk to our engineer in water pump dubai.

Use Gauges:

Installing gauges within your pump system is always a good monitoring option. You can reference the gauges to understand where the pump is on the curve. If it is starting to fall off track, your pump might be having a cavitation problem that requires investigation.

Check Filters For Reduced Flow

Clogged filters are a common cause of cavitation issues. As debris and particulates gather in the filter, NPSHA is reduced if the pump is not sized correctly.

Shutting down production to clean filters and strainers isn’t exactly convenient either. However, there are ways around this.

Automatic self-cleaning filters like Eaton’s DCF and MCF series are popular choices for processes where production can’t be stopped. Self-cleaning filters are great because, as the name suggests, they clean themselves. Once installed, they automatically filter any solids or debris from whatever liquid you are pumping. They are known to improve pump efficiency while requiring minimal operator intervention. Click to see a video on how self cleaning filters work.
A duplex strainer, also known as a twin-basket strainer, filters and removes large particles of dirt or debris from liquid pumping systems. They never require downtime for cleaning because a valve is placed between the two baskets, changing the flow of liquid to one strainer while the other is being cleaned.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, as they say, so it’s best to properly size your pump from the beginning and ensure the piping design fits the application.
But we know that flows and processes change over time, creating an unintentional chain of events that can sometimes cause a cavitation problem where there wasn’t one before. Take advantage of the technology now available to properly manage and monitor the pumps in your facility.

If pumps experience cavitation, check these things to troubleshoot the problem on your own:
  • Check filters and strainers - clogs on the suction, or discharge side can cause an imbalance of pressure inside the pump
  • Reference the pump's curve - Use a pressure gauge and/or a flowmeter to understand where your pump is operating on the curve. Make sure it is running at its best efficiency point. Running the pump off its best efficiency point not only causes excess recirculation, expect excessive heat, radial loads, vibration, high seal temperatures, and lowered efficiency.
  • Re-evaluate pipe design - Ensure the path the liquid takes to get to and from your pump is ideal for the pump's operating conditions. Designs with inverted “U”s on the suction side can trap air, while designs with a 90° immediately before the pump can cause turbulence inside the pump. Both result in suction problems and pump cavitation.

Simply defined, cavitation is the formation of bubbles or cavities in liquid, developed in areas of relatively low pressure around an impeller. The imploding or collapsing of these bubbles trigger intense shockwaves inside the pump, causing significant damage to the impeller and/or the pump housing. Talk to technical team at water pump dubai for the service and maintenance of the pump.

If left untreated, pump cavitation can cause:
  •     Failure of pump housing
  •     Destruction of impeller
  •     Excessive vibration - leading to premature seal and bearing failure
  •     Higher than necessary power consumption
  •     Decreased flow and/or pressure

Suction Cavitation

When a pump is under low pressure or high vacuum conditions, suction cavitation occurs. If the pump is "starved" or is not receiving enough flow, bubbles or cavities will form at the eye of the impeller. As the bubbles carry over to the discharge side of the pump, the fluid conditions change, compressing the bubble into liquid and causing it to implode against the face of the impeller.
An impeller that has fallen victim to suction cavitation will have large chunks or very small bits of material missing, causing it to look like a sponge. Damage to the impeller appears around the eye of the impeller when suction cavitation is present.
Possible causes of suction cavitation:
  •     Clogged filters or strainers
  •     Blockage in the pipe
  •     Pump is running too far right on the pump curve
  •     Poor piping design
  •     Poor suction conditions (NPSH requirements)

Discharge Cavitation

When a pump's discharge pressure is extremely high or runs at less than 10% of its best efficiency point (BEP), discharge cavitation occurs. The high discharge pressure makes it difficult for the fluid to flow out of the pump, so it circulates inside the pump. Liquid flows between the impeller and the housing at very high velocity, causing a vacuum at the housing wall and the formation of bubbles.
As with suction cavitation, the implosion of those bubbles triggers intense shockwaves, causing premature wear of the impeller tips and pump housing. In extreme cases, discharge cavitation can cause the impeller shaft to break.
Possible causes of discharge cavitation:
  •     Blockage in the pipe on discharge side
  •     Clogged filters or strainers
  •     Running too far left on the pump curve
  •     Poor piping design

Frequently occurring in pumping applications, cavitation creates bubbles or vapor cavities in a liquid as a result of rapid changes in pressure. These liquid-free voids typically form in low-pressure zones and can burst when subjected to high pressures, sending powerful shockwaves throughout the entire application.

Manufacturers in the chemical processing, food processing, and petroleum industries must consider the risk of cavitation when designing machinery in order to avoid unwanted noise, vibration, and component damage.
Cavitation decreases an application’s efficiency over time and puts repeated stress on critical pump parts, shortening their overall lifespan. Shockwaves can cause significant damage to the pump, which in turn leads to premature valve failure, decreased flow pressure, and, ultimately, breakage. If you’re experiencing any of these issues with your pumping application, our in-house pump experts can help.

TYPES OF PUMP CAVITATION

There are two types of cavitation that may occur in reciprocating positive displacement applications: suction and discharge. Suction cavitation occurs ahead of the suction stroke, when the pump is starved of flow, either from being in a high-vacuum or low-pressure environment. The opening of the valve is delayed by inertia, causing a lower flow rate on the suction side and resulting in expansion, pressure decrease, and the formation of bubbles close to the plunger.

Common causes of suction cavitation include:

  • Clogged filters
  • Pipe blockage on the suction side
  • Poor piping design
  • Pump running too far right on the pump curve
  • Conditions not meeting NPSH (net positive suction head) requirements
Discharge cavitation occurs when the pump’s discharge pressure is too high. Under these conditions, it’s difficult for the fluid to flow out of the pump. Instead, it continues moving at high velocities inside the working chamber, forming bubbles in the process.

Common causes of discharge cavitation include:

  • Clogged filters
  • Pipe blockage on the discharge side
  • Poor piping design
When working with pumping applications in a processing industry, cavitation should always be kept in mind; being able to recognize the warning signs and identify the root causes of cavitation in your machinery can significantly reduce the risk of long-term damages, saving both time and money.

Circulation pumps are low-flow pumps which circulate the water in your hot tub non-stop in a slow, controlled motion that continuously heats, chemically treats and filters the water. Not every hot tub is equipped with a circulation pump, some have 2-speed pumps instead. To identify if your model has a circulation pump, look at the number of Amps on the label. If it is under 1.5 Amps, it is a circulation pump.

Most water pump dubai models are equipped with a pump, designed with superior filtration capabilities and delivers the highest gallon per minute (GPM) rate in the industry. The higher GPM standard also allows the pump to produce better energy efficiency and up to four times the filtration compared to other circulation pumps.

Identifying Circulation Pump Problems
Occasionally, you may experience a problem with your hot tub circulation pump. It is helpful to know what exactly to look out for. Below are some of the most common issues.

Dead Circulation Pump - If the circulation pump is not working whatsoever, it may be dead. To be sure, first, check that your power and breaker is on and that the GFCI test button has not been accidentally tripped. If properly powered and not working, check your topside control panel to see if there is an error code being displayed. This may give an indication of what exactly the issue is. Other troubleshooting options for a dead circulation pump include checking that the valves are all in the open position, looking for kinks in the hose and checking the filter.

Not Pumping Much - If your circulation pump is only producing a low volume of water coming from the heater, there is an issue. First, remove the spa filter to see if this improves the flow rate. If not, try replacing the filter. If this does not correct, the issue could be the result of something blocking the flow or interfering with the suction.
Making Noise - If your circulation pump is making noise, this is indicative of an error. Any humming, grinding or gurgling noises are a red flag. Often, the problem is caused by a clogged propeller or a dirty filter. Other times, it could be the result of the bearings wearing down.
