Cleaning the GRP tank can be a challenging task, but it is worth the effort. In this article, I want to explain to you how to clean grp tanks. What is the point of having a storage tank if not to have clean water? I mean, if you are going to neglect and keep it unclean, it is more or less like leaving the water in open storage where all sorts of germs and particles can just dive in.
Leaving it unclean for a long time will only attract the growth of algae and other unpleasant fungi. What’s more? If the water is left to stay for long, it gets a bad odor and even tastes unpleasant. The algae could also produce silt and bacteria which could be toxic.
It is up to you to ensure that the tank is cleaned at least once or twice annually.
Dewater the tank
You have to drain all the water first by opening a tap outlet to let the water out. You can also use hosepipes so you can direct the water to a safe area without causing erosion. Use a sanction machine or dry vacuum cleaner to dry the tank completely.
Mix the cleaning products
Make a cleaning mixture by adding some mild and laundry detergent in hot water. This is helpful in sediments removal and getting rid of the residues from the tank.
Cleaning the walls
Start by scrubbing the walls of the tank thoroughly using the cleaning mixture and a bristle brush. Do it around all the walls applying more pressure as you move your hands horizontally and getting rid of all the sticky dirt.
Clean the inside of the tank
Scrub the inside of the tanks thoroughly to get rid of the sediments and scum. You, however, must ensure that you have the best resin for best results and not only that, make sure that you have prepared the tank well for cleaning. Fill your power washer with the cleaning mixture (the one you made from water and detergent). If you realize that the solution is getting harder with time, add acetone to dissolve
Hold the washer in the best position and distance that will work for you in removing all the dirt and sediments. Repeat the procedure until you are satisfied with the results. Note that you should be wearing protective gear such as gloves and glasses throughout the process.
Rinsing dirt from the tank
Now that you have already scrubbed off the sediments from the floor and wall of the tank, it is time to rinse the tank with purely clean water. You can use hose and pipes for this. The other option is filling the tank with hot water, wait for it to stand for some time before draining it and repeat the process until all the sediment and detergent is swept off.
Drying the tank
It is time to get rid of any water residues, and the best way to go about it is using a vacuum to dry it off until there are no traces of dirty water.
There, you have a clean water tank, and you can now refill it with fresh water.
