Solar energy is the fastest growing renewable source for electricity generation. Solar power generation has several advantages compared to other power generations. Whether for home, commercial, industrial and other, you always benefit with solar panel installation.
Below is the advantage pf solar panels:

Cut down electricity bills: Electricity bills could be saved with solar energy systems. Reducing the usage of electricity from the government or authority and converting the usage to solar would reduce the monthly bills generating.

Installing solar panels would increase the worth of any property in the market the same as with low property taxes and low electricity bills.

Solar is the best investment, solar energy is in the growth of upward direction. The utility companies are un reliable with fluctuating electricity prices.Every person could have the math to calculate how much electricity will be generated monthly and the savings of it.

The government supports the solar energy initiatives for both residential and commercial sectors. Keeping the cost of the solar power generation more affordable.

Space saving is the best with solar panels. You could install solar panels on any types of the roof. This helps to save the space on your property and provide you the most efficient for of energy.

Solar panels are suitable for all the climate conditions even in colder areas, it would be efficient.

Fossil fuels and natural gas are source of non renewable source whereas as the solar panels are completely renewable source. Sun is a source of energy that would be providing for us fro years which would reduce the dependance of fossil fuels in the world.

Maintenance of solar panels are very less compared to other source of energy generations

Is it repair to replace hot water system

12/1/2020

Picture
This depends on what problem there are with your hot water system and how old it is. Generally, if you have a water heating system that is close to 15 years old, replacing will be more cost-effective. We can either replace your hot water cylinder and its components, or switch you over to a continuous flow hot water system. We’ll talk through the benefits of each and see what’s best for your household and your water use.

If your hot water system is less than 10 years old – either a gas or electric hot water cylinder, or a continuous flow system – it’s definitely worth checking if we can repair it first. Most systems that are less than 10 years old will still be under the manufacturers guarantee, so it worth us checking to see if the problem you’re having is covered by that.

Over the years we’ve seen lots of different issues with hot water systems as they age – sometimes all that is needed is a replacement of the thermostat or the valves. We’ll come out and have a look and see what the way to fix the problem is in the most cost-effective way for you.

ariston solar water heater
As they say, never say never. But there are definitely things you can do to minimise the chances of running out of hot water.
The most important thing you can do is to have regular maintenance done on your water heating system. Many of us take our hot water for granted. We have a water heating system and we don’t think about it – until something goes wrong.
At ariston solar water heater we urge you to make the time to have us come and look at your water heating system when there’s nothing wrong. This will greatly reduce the likelihood of us having to come out for an urgent or emergency call when something goes wrong. You can book a time here and our friendly team will come out and make sure everything is running as it should.
A regular maintenance check includes:
  • checking for rust or corrosion
  • checking for faulting parts
  • checking for leaks (water leaks or gas leaks)
  • checking all valves, components, thermostat
  • listening for unusual sounds
  • checking how long it takes for your water to heat up
There are many issues that go unseen to the trained eye (and ears). The team at Regency Plumbing has been working with hot water heating systems for over two decades. We can instantly spot any issues before they become costly repairs

What causes a hot water system to fail

12/1/2020

ariston solar water heater
If you have an electric hot water cylinder, the first and easiest thing to check is whether or not there has been a power outage at your home. It might sound obvious, but often people turn the shower on first thing to let it warm up, before even turning on the bathroom light. So turn on the light to check whether there is a problem with your power.

If there’s no power outage, then give the team at Regency Plumbing a call on 800 758 623. We’ll run through a few questions with you and see if we can help over the phone. If not, our 24/7 emergency team can help get your hot water back up and running.

If you have a gas hot water cylinder or a continuous flow hot water heating system that isn’t working, there could be a number reasons causing it to fail.

Similar to problems with an electric system, the first thing to check is whether there is a power source failure. This is rare with gas, but it’s worth checking. If you’re using LPG bottles, check whether you’ve run out of gas.
If there is no problem with the gas supply, there may be faults with the thermostat, valves, or other components of your hot water cylinder. In fact, when a gas hot water cylinder system fails, it’s usually the components that fail, not the cylinder itself.

If this is the case, you’ll need to give us a call. You should only trust a qualified gas fitter to look at your gas hot water heating system. Please do not attempt to fix it yourself, as this could be extremely dangerous (and it’s not actually legal to do your own repairs on a gas system).

Maintain Your Water Heater

8/7/2020

Your water heater is one of the most important appliances in your home, because it supplies the hot water your family needs. Without a supply of piping hot water straight from the tap, things can get pretty dicey pretty quickly around the house.
You might have a gas water heater, an electric one or a spiffy new tankless unit, but in terms of maintenance, water heaters fall into two basic categories — those with tanks, and those without. On average, your home’s water heater should last around eight to 13 years, depending on whether it’s a traditional tank model or a tankless. Of course, how well you maintain your water heater will have a huge impact on how long it lasts. Whether you have a gas, electric, or tankless model, your water heater needs regular TLC in order to keep supplying your family with hot water throughout its expected lifespan. Here’s your water heater maintenance checklist for tank and tankless models alike.

Maintenance Tips for Water Heaters with Tanks
A conventional tank water heater heats up water using either gas or electric, and stores that water in its tank for use. Here are a few things you should do to extend your tank water heater’s life.

Test the Pressure Relief ValveThe pressure relief valve is a safety mechanism that prevents your water heater from exploding if too much pressure builds up inside of it. You’ll see a switch on the side of your water heater with a long, copper or plastic discharge pipe leading down from it. If the pressure inside your tank gets too high, the valve opens automatically to release it, and the discharge pipe directs the flow of water down to the floor and, hopefully, away from your furnace, electrical panel, or other sensitive equipment.

Test the pressure relief valve during your yearly water heater maintenance by placing a bucket under the discharge pipe and lifting the lever. If water comes out of the pipe, you’re good; use the lever to close the valve. If lifting the lever doesn’t open the valve, or if the valve leaks after you test it, replace it.

Check the Anode Rod
Whether you have an electric water heater or a gas water heater, it will have an anode rod. The anode rod takes one for the team, attracting corrosive minerals so that they corrode the rod, instead of the tank itself. Replacing the anode rod once every five years or so could significantly lengthen the life of your water heater.
First, shut off the gas or power to the water heater, then close the shutoff valve, open a hot water tap, open the pressure release valve, and drain a few gallons of water from the tank. If you see flakes of rust in the water, it’s time for a new water heater — but orange water is not necessarily a bad sign.
Check your unit’s user manual to find out where the anode rod is — if you don’t have the hard copy, you can find one online. You may need an impact wrench and some WD-40 to break it free, or at least a cheater pipe. Once you have it broken free, check for links around the hex head — if you see any, you need to drain some more water out of your tank before proceeding.
If the rod looks corroded, or if your tank is at least five years old and you’ve never checked the rod before, you’ll need to replace it. You can buy a flexible rod for heaters in tight spaces. Use pipe thread sealant on the threads instead of plumber’s tape, since tape can make the rod less effective. Flush the tank, or at least drain a few more gallons out, before turning the power and water back on.

Flush the TankYou need to flush your water heater’s tank yearly to prevent the build-up of mineral sediment deposits that can rust right through the steel.

To flush your tank, turn off the gas or power and cold water supply to the tank. Open a hot water tap and the pressure release valve, then use a hose and bucket to drain the water from the tank until it runs clear and free of sediment. If you have a lot of sediment in your tank, you’ll need to empty it completely. Then, turn on the cold water supply to the tank and let the cold water run through it until it comes out clear. Keep flushing until you see no more sediment coming out of the tank.

Maintenance Tips for Tankless Water HeatersTankless water heaters heat water on demand, instead of storing it in a tank, but they still need regular maintenance. Many such units will indicate when maintenance is required, but you should plan to perform maintenance yearly, or more often if you have hard water.

Flush the Water HeaterTo flush a tankless water heater, turn off the gas or power and cold water to the unit. Shut off the hot water valve that sends hot water from the unit to the house. Attach a garden hose to the outlet of a sump pump, and to your unit’s cold-water isolation valve.

Attach a second length of hose to your unit’s hot-water isolation valve. Place both the end of this hose, and the pump, in a five-gallon bucket. Then fill the bucket with five gallons of fresh, food-grade white vinegar.
Open both the cold and hot isolation valves on your unit, turn on the pump, and let the vinegar circulate through the unit for about 45 minutes. Throw out the used vinegar, fill the bucket with plain water, and flush the unit again for about five minutes.

Clean the Air Intake Filter
While you are flushing your tankless water heater with vinegar, you should clean the air intake filter. The air intake filter keeps debris from getting into your tankless water heater. Cleaning it keeps air flowing smoothly into the unit.
You can access the air intake filter by removing your unit’s face plate — check the user manual for specific instructions. Once you’ve got the filter out, rinse it thoroughly with clean water, then dry it with paper towels before reinstalling it. Disconnect your hoses, screw on all service caps tightly, then open the cold and hot water valves and restore power and, if necessary, gas to the unit. Check for and address any leaks.

Water heater maintenance may not be fun, but it can help you save the money you’ll need to do the things you will enjoy, because it can drastically improve the life of your water heater. Take care of your water heater today, or tomorrow you could find yourself shelling out hundreds to replace it before its time. When you invest in Solar water heater , you will enjoy robust coverage for your water heater because many parts and components are included in the warranty.

How do Solar Water Heater Works

6/14/2020

Most people don’t know that there are three different types of solar water heater collectors. While they all depend on the sun’s thermal energy to generate heat, each differs in operation or functionality.

Evacuated tube collectors
Evacuated tube collectors are typically considered the most efficient solar collectors available. Think of each evacuated tube as a kind of thermos. Each glass or metal tube containing water or heat transfer fluid is guarded by a larger glass tube. The space between them functions as a vacuum responsible for minimizing the amount of heat lost.

The most significant benefit to evacuated tube collectors is that they are able to operate well on overcast days and in cold climates. The catch is that evacuated tube collectors can run a costly bill, totaling about twice as much per square foot as flat plate collectors.

Batch collectors
Batch collector solar water heaters are also commonly referred to as Integrated Collector-Storage (ICS) systems.  These systems heat the water inside dark tanks or tubes that are housed within an insulated box. The water is warmed and stored until drawn.

Batch collector systems are capable of keeping a preserve of water for long periods of time if household hot water demand is low. It is important to note that batch collectors are incompatible with closed-loop circulation systems, making them ill-fit for households in colder climates.

Flat-plate collectors
Flat-plate collectors are typically constructed using copper tubes fixed to flat absorber plates. The most common flat-plate configurations feature an assembly of parallel tubes soldered together at each end by two pipes. The goal of the architecture is to maximize the amount of solar radiation captured. The vast majority of flat plate collectors are sized to contain 40 gallons of water.

Is a solar-powered water heater right for me?

If you’re in the market for a water heater upgrade, choosing a solar-powered system is a great option worth pursuing if reducing your carbon footprint is a top priority. Do your research to find the best system that suits your expectations and demands, asking the three questions below before beginning your hunt:
  1. Where do you live?
  2. What is your budget?
  3. How much hot water will you need?
Ultimately, determining if a solar water heating system is right for you will take careful consideration of the following factors:
  • How much sunlight your property receives
  • Your hot water demand
  • Your preferred solar heating system type
  • Your chosen installer’s preferred manufacturer

Where You Should You Start When Making Green Home

6/14/2020

While you’re planning your green remodeling project, direct the majority of your budget toward simple but lasting property upgrades that meet Energy Star guidelines. If you have room left over in your green remodeling renovation budget, then you can invest in major projects you feel passionate about, like solar panels, greywater irrigation, and other eco-friendly updates.

1. Choose Energy-Efficient Insulation
The majority of American homes aren’t insulated properly for their climate—which means you could be losing hundreds of dollars per month on heating and cooling bills. If your house is more than 20 years old, one of the best green remodeling options to consider is upgrading to eco-friendly insulation. Loose-fill insulation made from recycled paper will stop up air leaks and prevent heat from escaping your house in winter.

Live in a cold climate?
Consider devoting some of your green remodeling budget to air sealing, too. In addition to attic air sealing, [insulation] helps prevent the build-up of ice dams during the cold months, according to EnergyStar
Want to learn how to heat- and cold-proof your home? Start here for more eco-friendly insulation ideas.

2. Upgrade HVACs and Heat Pumps
Without the proper HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system, even small homes can become inefficient quickly. If your current HVAC system is more than 10 years old, consider designating some of your green remodeling budget to an upgrade. Not only can you save anywhere from 30 to 40 percent on your yearly heating bill with an Energy Star-recommended HVAC system, but you can also rest assured knowing that your home is more eco-friendly than ever.

Expecting a tough winter?
Don’t discount investing in a new heat pump. Today’s versions are more energy-efficient than their predecessors, and they work well even in colder climates. “Even at 5 degrees, these technologies will still produce two to three units of heat for every one unit of electricity they use,” explained Andy Belden, the senior director of the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, to The Boston Globe. “[They’re] still highly efficient, even at some of the lowest temperatures we see in New England.”

Not sure where to start when it comes to upgrading your outdated HVAC system? Learn how one Ygrene customer went from an ancient evaporative cooler to an efficient mini-split system—and saved big on energy costs—here.

3. Install Energy Star-Certified Windows
If you have an older home with single-pane glass windows, it’s time to divert your green remodeling budget to updating your home’s windows. Energy Star-certified insulated glass panels can save you as much as $400 per year if you live in a cold climate. But it’s a smart update even if you depend on A/C to keep cool in the summer—insulated windows help keep cool air in, too.
Replacing all the windows in your home can be expensive, especially if your green remodeling plan includes pricier building materials for window frames. Homeowners should expect to pay anywhere between $450 to $1,000 per window. While it may take some years before you start recouping costs in energy savings, you can expect the savings in your first one to two years to equal the amount of a single window upgrade.

4. Update Your Appliances
No matter how ambitious your green remodeling plans might be, one of the single best strategies for making your home more energy efficient is to upgrade your appliances, says the DOE. According to David Webber, a green architect based in Austin, Texas, it’s often worth updating energy-efficient necessities, such as appliances, first.
Newer washing machine and dishwasher models often have eco-friendly settings that use less water. Energy Star-certified air conditioners are 20 percent more efficient today than they were in 2001, while water boilers more than 15 years old could be up to 15 percent more inefficient than their modern-day replacements. Likewise, an energy-efficient refrigerator could save you as much as 15 percent on your utility costs.

Solar Water heater Systems

6/14/2020

We are blessed with Solar Energy in abundance at no cost. The solar radiation incident on the surface of the earth can be conveniently utilized for the benefit of human society. One of the popular devices that utilize the solar energy is solar hot water system (SHWS). Solar water heating system is a device that uses solar energy to heat water for domestic, commercial, and industrial needs.

Working of a solar water heater
The system is generally installed on the roof or open ground, with the collectors are glazed on the sun facing side to allow solar radiation to come and connected to a continuous water supply. A black absorbing surface (absorber) inside the flat plate collectors absorbs solar radiation and transfers the energy to water flowing through it. Heated water is collected in the tank which is insulated to prevent heat loss. Circulation of water from the tank through the collectors and back to the tank continues automatically due to density difference between hot and cold water (thermosyphon effect).Water flows through the tubes, absorbs solar heat and becomes hot. The heated water is stored in a tank for further use. The water stored in the tank remains hot overnight as the storage tank is insulated and heat losses are small.

Parts of the Solar Water Heater System
A solar water heater system consists of a solar collector, a storage tank kept at a height behind the collector, and pipelines. The collector usually comprises copper tubes welded to copper sheets (both coated with a highly absorbing black coating) with a toughened glass sheet on top and insulating material at the back. The entire assembly is placed in a flat box.

Storage Tanks
Most solar water heaters require a well-insulated storage tank. Solar storage tanks have an additional outlet and inlet connected to and from the collector. In two-tank systems, the solar water heater preheats water before it enters the conventional water heater. In one-tank systems, the back-up heater is combined with the solar storage in one tank.

Solar Collectors
Three types of solar collectors are used for residential applications:

Flat-plate collector: It is the heart of a solar water heating system. It consists of an absorber plate which is coated on its sun facing surface with an absorbent coating, also called selective coating. The absorber consists of a grid of metallic tubes and sheets. Water flows through the tubes. Sheet absorbs the solar radiation falling on it and transfers it to water. The absorber plate is placed in a top open box to protect it from weather. The space between back and sides of the absorber and the box is filled with insulation to reduce heat losses. The front of the box is covered with a high transmittance glass plate. Flat plate collectors are the most common type used in the domestic solar water heating systems in India as they are relatively cheaper when compared to others.

Glazed flat-plate: collectors are insulated, weatherproofed boxes that contain a dark absorber plate under one or more glass or plastic (polymer) covers. Unglazed flat-plate collectors typically used for solar pool heating — have a dark absorber plate, made of metal or polymer, without a cover or enclosure.

Integral collector-storage systems: Also known as ICS or batch systems, they feature one or more black tanks or tubes in an insulated, glazed box. Cold water first passes through the solar collector, which preheats the water. The water then continues on to the conventional backup water heater, providing a reliable source of hot water. They should be installed only in mild-freeze climates because the outdoor pipes could freeze in severe, cold weather.

Evacuated-tube solar collectors: Evacuated Tube Collector is made of parallel rows of transparent borosilicate glass tubes evacuated for providing insulation. Each tube contains a glass outer tube and metal absorber tube attached to a fin. The fin’s coating helps absorption of solar radiation and transfers the heat to the water which flows through the inner tube.

Do solar panels need maintenance?

6/14/2020

When deciding to purchase solar panels you need to consider the maintenance requirements of the panels. Maintenance is the key to sustaining a strong, properly functioning, efficient, and effective structure. Insufficient care for solar panels can reduce the amount of energy generated by the panels .Since a solar panel system needs to absorb energy from the sun; the most vital component of solar panel care is to keep the panels clean. It is important to know about the solar panel maintenance needed to do to keep panels working well for years to come. Also consider the warranty offered on solar panels. A strong warranty can allow enjoy to peace of mind after solar panel installation, as knowing the investment is protected.

Generally Solar panels require very little maintenance. They are very durable and should last around 25–30 years with no maintenance. As there are no moving parts for solar panels very little maintenance is needed. Wash them clean of dirt and dust two to four times a year. Watch out for leaves or snow falling on the panels so you can clear them away as quickly as possible.

There are a few ways you can clean the panels. The first and easiest way is to rinse of dust with a standard garden hose. If the panels seem to need a little more cleaning than the hose offers, a soft, spongy squeegee on a long can be used, along with some soapy water. Then use the hose to rinse off any excess suds. If the panels are too high to reach without climbing up a ladder, it may be best to leave the cleaning for the professionals. Local solar panel cleaners are in abundance. The basic cleaning routine ensures that the sun can shine brightly on the panel, maximizing the amount of light available to turn into electrical power.
